The marble floored classrooms are the place where the sacred time of Yoga students & visitors from around the world are spent on Yoga mats.

The teaching is very gradual, layered and experiential- the special part is after every ‘element’ one has to see, experience & be aware of how the body felt.

This systematically developed the angle of awareness to the Yoga.  This helps one to become aware of the tingling sensation, lightness,  tightness or energy shifts that each movement in Yogic posture creates. Self Awareness is at the core of  Yoga learning experience at BSY.

The 12 hours of silence every day also helps in intensifying the learning. Even two months later one can still recall what the correct posture was, as the body remembers the sensations better than the mind.

If there is one reason why this place is called the Harvard of Yoga by many Yoga Practitioners, it is the supreme depth of teaching and the amazing quality of teachers.  The Satyananda Yoga tradition is classical, well researched, tried and tested.

Ma'am
Thanks for posting such a short and informative piece.
I hope it will be useful for the readers; however, I request you to remove the 10th photograph from the top (ie. 5th from the bottom) as it is not from the BSY.

The inaugural centenary celebration in 2017 was attended was Sri Venkaiah Naidu the Vice President of India when the institute completed 99 years of it’s foundation.

Thanku so much Great blog entry. I simply needed to state the blog I have truly made the most of your blog. Thanks for sharing… I have heard of this Institute in Mumbai. But is it as prestigious as Bihar School of Yoga, Munger? ?

Your information about the Yoga Institute in Santacruz East, Mumbai, is correct. Founded by Sri Yogendra in 1918, it is indeed one of the oldest organized yoga centers in the world. The institute has played a pivotal role in the development and promotion of yoga, and it reaching its centenary is a significant milestone, aptly marked by the attendance of Sri Venkaiah Naidu, the Vice President of India at the time. This highlights the institute’s longstanding contribution to the practice and spread of yoga both in India and globally.

It just takes me back to 1971, in month of December, spent a month, learning yoga. In the evening we used to have sat sang with swamijee. I personally spoke to him with life in u.s,a, etc. swamijee picture still hangers in my living room.
