This place then is also just the setting for a cultural festival. That is why the Sundaram Finance sponsored Mylapore Kolam Festival is organised every year in January, on the eve of the local harvest festival of Pongal.
What began as a simple Kolam contest for the community in the year 2001 organised by the neighbourhood newspaper, Mylapore Times (www.mylaporetimes.com), has now grown into Mylapore Kolam Festival.
Four days. Over 12 venues, 30 plus events, 300 artistes. And thousands of people who visit and soak in it.
