The Vedanta Societies Outside India

Global Presence

The Vedanta Societies are organizations dedicated to the study and dissemination of Vedanta philosophy, rooted in the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and his disciple, Swami Vivekananda. The first Vedanta Society was established by Swami Vivekananda in New York in November 1894. These societies have since expanded globally, particularly across the United States, serving as centers for spiritual seekers to engage in prayer, meditation, study, and discussion.

In India, the Ramakrishna Order, founded by Swami Vivekananda, oversees the numerous centers that align with the principles of the Vedanta Societies. These centers continue to promote the universal teachings of Vedanta, emphasizing the divinity inherent in every individual and the unity of all religions.
