Brief Overview
Pochampally, popularly known as Pochampally Ikat, is one of the most celebrated textile weaving clusters of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, internationally renowned for its exquisite Ikat (tie-and-dye) handloom fabrics. Nestled in the Yadadri-Bhongir region, also known as Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, this cluster represents a rich legacy of artisanal skill passed down through generations of weavers.

Pochampally is distinguished by its intricate resist-dyeing technique, where yarns are carefully tied and dyed before weaving, resulting in complex geometric and floral patterns that appear with remarkable precision on silk, cotton, and silk-cotton fabrics. The meticulous craftsmanship, vibrant color palettes, and distinctive motifs have earned Pochampally Ikat a Geographical Indication (GI) status, affirming its authenticity and cultural significance.

More than a center of textile production, Pochampally stands as a symbol of India’s handloom heritage—where tradition, community-based livelihoods, and artistic excellence converge. Its fabrics are not only prized in domestic markets but are also sought after globally, reflecting the enduring appeal of Andhra Pradesh’s rich weaving traditions.
