Location & Setting

Siddhagiri Math (also known earlier as Kaneri Math) is located in the village of Kaneri, in Karvir taluka, Kolhapur district, Maharashtra.
It is situated on a hill-campus built around the Moola-Kaadsiddheshwar Shiva temple.
The surroundings include lush greenery, temples, halls, residential facilities, and a museum (Gramjivan Museum) that depicts traditional village life.

The Math traces its origins back to the 7th century CE when the first Kaadsiddheshwar Swamiji, Shri Niramay Kaadsiddheshwar, came and settled here.
It is the Sthir Peeth (steady seat) of the Kaadsiddheshwar tradition.
Over centuries, the Math aligned itself with the Lingayat / Shaiva traditions, and has had many Mathadhipatis (leaders) guiding it.
A prominent recent leader, Shri Samarth Muppin Kaadsiddheshwar Maharaj, renovated the Math, renamed it Siddhagiri Math, and developed large structures such as a 42-ft Shiva idol and improved facilities for devotees.

Temple & Iconography: Central to the Math is the Shiva temple (Moola-Kaadsiddheshwar), along with a massive 42-foot Shiva idol and an enormous Nandi statue.
Deep Well: The Math houses a 125-foot deep well within its premises.
Cultural Ambience: The serene and green environment adds to its spiritual appeal, making it both a pilgrimage and cultural destination.

The Siddhagiri Gramjivan Museum, situated within the Math, showcases rural life and self-sufficiency.
About 80 scenes with over 300 life-size statues depict village occupations such as blacksmiths, potters, barbers, and farmers.
The exhibits celebrate the dignity of labour and traditional Indian rural culture, resonating with Gandhian ideals of simple, self-reliant living.

The Math serves as a spiritual centre for the Lingayat-Shaiva community and beyond.
It organizes pravachans (discourses), bhajans, and community events on auspicious days and festivals.
The institution also extends support to farmers and labourers and maintains hostels and halls for visiting devotees.

By Air: The nearest airport is Kolhapur Airport (about 10 km away), with connections to Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru.
By Rail: Kolhapur Railway Station (Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus) is around 12 km from the Math, well connected to major cities.
By Road: Kolhapur is linked by highways to Pune (230 km), Mumbai (380 km), and Belgaum (110 km). Local buses, taxis, and auto-rickshaws are available from Kolhapur city to Kaneri village.
Local Transport: Visitors can hire cabs or use state transport buses to reach the Math easily from Kolhapur.
