Sankashti Chaturthi in the Ganesha Temples of Tamil Nadu

Sankashti Chaturthi is a religious festival celebrated in Ganesha temples across Tamil Nadu. It is observed on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the waning moon (Krishna Paksha) in each lunar month. The festival is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, and it is considered highly auspicious by devotees.

On this day, worshippers observe fasting and perform special prayers, pujas, and rituals to seek Lord Ganesha’s blessings for the removal of obstacles and the fulfillment of desires. The evening puja often includes the recitation of the Ganapati Atharvasirsha or other Ganesha prayers, followed by the offering of sweets such as modaks to the deity.
