Introduction
Nestled in the serene foothills of the Shivalik range, Anandpur Sahib in Punjab is one of the holiest towns of Sikhism. Founded by Guru Tegh Bahadur in 1665, the city was envisioned as a place of peace and devotion. Later, Guru Gobind Singh transformed Anandpur Sahib into the birthplace of the Khalsa Panth in 1699, forever cementing its place in Sikh history. At its heart stands the majestic Gurudwara Sri Keshgarh Sahib, one of the five Takhts (seats of Sikh temporal authority), drawing millions of devotees and visitors from across the world.

Historical Significance
- Foundation by Guru Tegh Bahadur: Anandpur Sahib, originally called Chakk Nanaki, was established on the banks of the Sutlej River.
- Khalsa Birthplace: On Vaisakhi day in 1699, Guru Gobind Singh initiated the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones), creating the Khalsa and giving Sikhs their distinct identity.
- The Forts of Anandpur: To protect the Sikh community, Guru Gobind Singh built a series of forts—Anandgarh, Lohgarh, Holgarh, Fatehgarh, and Taragarh—many of which still stand today as gurdwaras.

Gurudwara Sri Keshgarh Sahib
This is the central shrine of Anandpur Sahib and the exact place where the Khalsa was created. The sanctum preserves sacred relics of Guru Gobind Singh, including weapons and artifacts. Its spiritual aura, coupled with its panoramic location against the Shivalik hills, makes it one of Sikhism’s most revered destinations.
Festivals and Celebrations
- Hola Mohalla: Anandpur Sahib is world-famous for Hola Mohalla, celebrated around March. It features martial displays by the Nihangs, processions, devotional music, and communal spirit.
