Y. Ramani, inspired by her mother, began making papier-mache dolls as a hobby in her college days. With no professional mentors to guide her, she evolved as an artist through innovation, self-taught techniques and perseverance.

Today, she has successfully created a niche for her craft work in the field of Indian art. Ramani makes papier-mache art work primarily focusing on ‘dolls’.

She has been making costumed dolls depicting Indian mythology, Indian classical dances, folk dances, couples in in different bridal attire, Indian tribes, people from different states of India and foreign traditionals.
