Gurdwara,  meaning “Door to the Guru“, is a place of worship for Sikhs (The Followers of Sikhism ). People from all faiths, and those who do not profess any faith, are welcomed in Sikh Gurdwaras.

Each Gurdwara has a Darbar Sahib where the everlasting Guru of the Sikhs, the Sikh Holy Scripture Guru Granth Sahib, is placed on a Takhat (An Elevated Throne) in a prominent central position.

The Raagis (who sing Ragas) recite, sing and explain, the verses from the Guru Granth Sahib, in the presence of the holy congregation.

All Gurdwaras have a Langar Hall, where the devotees & visitors can eat free vegetarian food

Many of the Gurudwaras also  may have a library, nursery, classroom, meeting rooms, a gift-shop and finally a repair shop.

Gurdwara can be identified from a distance by tall flagpoles bearing the Nishan Sahib, the Sikh flag.

The most well-known Gurdwara & the most important pilgrim place of the Sikhs, is the Harmandir Sahib (popularly known as The Golden Temple) in AmritsarPunjab.

More information on Gurudwaras around India, with web-links to the sources of the following sacred images of these Holy Shrines of the Sikhs, will follow soon.

Stay tuned, & please don’t miss the joy of exploring the countless Holy places of all Religions, all sects & all sub-sects of Secular India, at least virtually first, to begin with the Indian Spiritual Journey.

India, The Motherland of Sanathana Dharma / सनातन धर्म /  Universal Religion, is truly a Mystery, an Enigma, for every single visitor, from around the globe.

The more we dive into Indian Culture, Indian Heritage, Indian Spirituality, Indian Secularism, the more firm & more solid becomes our Inner Realization, that ‘The Great God Almighty’ is Truly Beginningless, Truly Endless, with Unfathomable Knowledge, Unexplorable Mysteries, Unimaginable Beauty & Infinite Glory.

And the great enlightened ancients of this most ancient oriental civilization firmly believed, that at the root of this ‘Infinity’ and ‘Infinite Names’, HE, SHE or IT  is Just One & One Alone. The Great God Almighty’ is Just ONE & ONE Alone
