Panruti Palappazham : Jackfruits of Panruti

JACKFRUIT ( Palappazham in Tamil & Kathal in Hindi ) is India’s most neglected fruit except in Panruti. This sleepy coastal town is a paradise for Jackfruit lovers. It produces the best jackfruits in India – huge, sweet and tasty and has demand around the globe. It’s an evergreen fruit & you can buy the fruit round the year here.

The Rathinampillai market located in the center of the city attracts thousands of people everyday from morning 5 a.m. itself. From sunrise to sunset one can see people carrying the Palaappazham (as the Jackfruit is locally called) on their heads, on bullock carts, two-wheelers, buses and cars.
