The town of Sankheda in Chhota Udaipur district of Gujarat in India, is known for its Lacquer Work.  This work is done on country-wood, which being brown gives darker shades. This town is internationally known for its handcrafted Sankheda furniture. These are made from Teak wood. 

This Popular Furniture is exported to countries all over the world. Sankheda is located on the banks of the Orsang River. It is located 55 km away from the city of Vadodara in the State of Gujarat in India.

Sankheda furniture is a very colourful variety of furniture treated with Lacquer and painted in traditional bright shades of maroon and gold. In recent years, colour innovations have been adopted with black, blue, green, ivory, copper, silver and burgundy shades. These ethnic furniture of Gujarat are not only widely marketed in India but are exported to many countries including Europe and West Asia. 

Sankheda furniture is protected under the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act (GI Act) 1999 of the Government of India.

Apart from the age-old traditional furniture in a wide range like three piece settees, headboards, beds, garden swings, dressing tables, rocking chairs, tables, screens, divan, etc., other modern innovations introduced these days in Sankheda-craft are wall-hangings, pedestal-lamps, flower-vases, pen-stands, toys, kitchen-ware, and support for hammocks. It is a custom among the Gujarati community of India, to gift these traditional furniture as auspicious gifts during marriages. 

Traditional Sankheda furniture of Gujarat have a Royal history, dating back to centuries. From centuries, Sankheda furniture have added to the glory of Emperors and Royal families. Sankheda furniture is known for its captivating artistic beauty and longevity without decaying. These Royal Sankeda furniture have now become accessible even to the general community.
